Teen's Death At Yonkers School Ruled An Accident
YONKERS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- The Westchester County medical examiner has ruled that the death of a teenager who died after he was restrained at a school for troubled children was an accident.
The finding was made in a report issued Tuesday, according to the Journal News.
Corey Foster was physically restrained by staff at Leake & Watts residential treatment center in Yonkers after apparently becoming agitated on a basketball court on April18.
The report said the 16-year-old suffered cardiac arrest "during an excited state while being subdued.''
Foster's mother, Sheila, told the paper she was disappointed with the finding.
Her attorney said he planned to file papers in court seeking the release of a surveillance video that could help identify staffers involved in the incident.
The school educates students with severe emotional, mental and academic disabilities and many students live on campus.
At least eight employees have been suspended without pay.
The district attorney's office said the investigation was continuing.
