Teen Found Stabbed To Death At Mahopac Home
MAHOPAC, N.Y. (CBS 2) -- A holiday tragedy has struck the northern suburbs, as a teenager was found slashed to death inside her Mahopac home.
Gloria Zhingri, 19, was found stabbed to death in the apartment she shared with her husband at the rear of her parents' home.
Police descended on the area before dawn, according to neighbors.
"We get up at 4:30 in the morning, we leave at 5:30, and they were already here, and we found out there was a homicide," neighbor Angela Stanton said.
Word began to leak out to the victim's extended family that the unthinkable had happened.
"I called my brother and my sister, but they were crying," Narcisa Zhinin, the victim's aunt, said.
Zhingri was two years out of high school, and friends and family say she was a hard worker and excellent student. She had a child with her boyfriend, and they eventually married.
Zhingri worked hard as a secretary, but relatives told CBS 2 that her husband did not. They say he did a great deal of drinking, and spent some time in jail for a DWI. Now, they say, he's missing.
The victim's parents own a cab company in Ossining. They rushed to back to Mahopac, but their home had become a crime scene after a horror that's cast a pall over the holiday.
"Pretty unnerving, especially the fact that it's Christmas Eve," neighbor Rob Texiera said. "I think everybody would just want to be with their families right now."
Homicide detectives at the Putnam County Sheriff's Office say they have not officially identified a suspect in connecting with the killing.
