Teen Faces Homicide Charge In Brooklyn Crash
NEW YORK (CBS 2) -- A 16-year-old boy is facing adult charges after being accused in a deadly car crash that killed a 13-year-old girl.
Police said Eric Hakimisefat was going twice the speed limit when he lost control of his car and slammed into a telephone pole, a parked car and the porch of a Brooklyn home.
On Sunday, Sarah Erdan was riding with her 16-year-old brother and Hakimisefat down East 23rd street when the accident occurred. Erdan, who was in the backseat, was killed, CBS 2's Derricke Dennis reported.
Hakimisefat and the other teen walked away with minor injuries.
Homeowner Shani Ostrovitisky spoke with Dennis and described the accident.
"We heard a loud boom, then a loud bang and my whole house shook," Ostrovitisky said, "the driver jumped right out of the window, and he starts telling me 'I tried to stop, I tried to stop.'"
Erdan was remembered by family and friends as a bright and special girl at her Midwood home Monday. She skipped a grade to start high school this year.
Hakimisefat has been charged with criminally negligent homicide, driving without a license and speeding. Dennis reported the teen only had a provisional permit that allowed him to drive only with an adult and only with one young passenger.
"He should not have been behind the wheel, I don't know how he got a car, but he should definitely not have had a car, or access to a car," Ostrovitisky said.
The funeral for Erdan, who is Jewish Orthodox, was held Monday.
Bail was set at $10,000 for Hakimisefat and he is due back in court in December. .
