Tebow Struggles On Final Day At Cortland
CORTLAND, New York (CBSNewYork/AP) - Tim Tebow had one of his worst days of practice this summer on the final day of New York Jets' camp.
Tebow went 2-for-10 with an interception in team passing drills. He was also "sacked" four times. Tebow also worked in the wildcat offense, which the Jets practiced briefly for the first time since unveiling it Monday.
Meanwhile, Mark Sanchez performed better in passing drills. Sanchez was a sharp 5-for-6. Eli Manning recently stated that Sanchez has significant upside.
Tebow worked with the second-team offense and on special teams as the punt protector Thursday, the Jets' final practice in Cortland before heading home to Florham Park, N.J. The Jets play their second preseason game Saturday night against the Giants.
It's been a different kind of camp than the ones Tebow had been used to during his time with the Denver Broncos. Tebow hadn't done punt protection drills in over a decade.
"Besides the personal (punt) protector stuff, the rest has always been pretty natural and easy, and stuff I've done for, gosh, the last 10 or 12 years, so that really wasn't an adjustment," Tebow said after Thursday's practice.
TEBOWMANIA: Tebow found out he was featured on the cover of the latest issue of GQ magazine while watching ESPN in the team's cafeteria, saying it was "a shocker to me." The quarterback didn't sit down with the magazine for a one-on-one interview or participate in a photo shoot, so the story was accompanied by old pictures — including one in which he is shirtless and appears to strike a Jesus-like pose. "Was I trying to do anything as far as the crucifix? Absolutely not," said Tebow, who added that the photo was taken six years ago and "wasn't trying to do anything like that."
