Teacher Union Prez Blasts Alleged Mistakes In DOE Reports
NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- The president of the city teacher's union suing to prevent the release of teachers' names in a Department of Education report card said Sunday that multiple mistakes have been found in the assessment.
United Federation of Teachers president Michael Mulgrew said the formula used to produce the reports was in its "developmental stage" and had a 60 point margin of error.
"We want people to understand what these reports are really about...parents deserve good information, not bad information, and they've been getting bad information for so long from this Department of Education," Mulgrew told WCBS 880.

Mulgrew gave examples of alleged incorrect reports including one teacher who he said was given a report while on maternity leave for a year.
"Another [teacher] spoke about how she was given a report for the fifth grade, when all she has ever taught is fourth grade," Mulgrew told 1010 WINS.
The union president suggested the money spent on the report cards was a "waste."
"These teachers have contacted the Dept. of Ed and documented the problem and their response is 'we're not fixing the report,'" Mulgrew said.
A judge will ultimately decide whether the teacher report cards are made public.
