Taxi Driver, Struggling To Provide For His Family, Found Shot To Death In Newark
NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) - A taxi driver was found shot to death in the North Ward section of Newark early on Saturday morning.
Police made the discovery on Mt. Prospect Avenue. They were responding to a call of a cab crashing into several parked cars, and that's when they found the driver's body. Witnesses said he lost control of the vehicle after he had been shot.

Rochenel Guerrier, 49, of Irvington was married with young children, he was struggling to provide for his family and took a job driving a cab at night in Newark.
The decision cost him his life.
"I heard the real loud screeching of the tires, and all of a sudden I heard this really big bang," one witness told 1010 WINS' Steve Sandberg.
A fellow cab driver told Sandberg that the victim was calm and quiet, a good guy. He also added that as a cab driver, he puts his life at risk every night.
"I've got three kids and a wife, and I have to feed them," the driver said. "It's a dangerous job in Newark."
A neighborhood woman went to the scene after hearing the crash and thought that nothing was wrong.
"I figured that he fell asleep," she told CBS 2. "I looked at the time and said, 'Oh, he's putting in long hours. He probably fell asleep and hit the other cars.' That's what I was thinking."
No arrests have been made at this time.
