The rustic stone bridges are too low and wayward big rigs can't squeeze underneath. So, they strike them and get ripped open like tin cans.
That's part of why trucks aren't allowed on the parkway. But they make their way on to it anyway.
According to state data, bridges over the Hutch have the highest number of truck strikes in the Hudson Valley.
King Street in Rye Brook was hit 95 times from 1993 to 2010.
Other trouble spots include Mamaroneck Road, Lincoln Avenue, and Route 125.
Robert Sinclair, Jr. of AAA told WCBS 880 reporter Sean Adams that his analysis shows, "You see that the signage is really poor, particularly inadequate."
A task force is working on the problem.
Possible solutions include better warning signs, alerts for GPS, and messages over CB radio.
