'Tan Mom' Patricia Krentcil Placed In Detox Facility
MINNEAPOLIS (CBSNewYork/AP) -- The New Jersey woman known as the "Tan Mom" is accused of making trouble again – this time at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.
As Cindy Hsu reported Saturday night, CBS 2 has learned that Patricia Krentcil had to be removed from a ticket counter by police.
The incident is the latest in a string of bizarre ones involving a woman who insists she is just fine.
All was quiet at Krentcil's Nutley, N.J., home Saturday night. But the same could not be said for the airport on Thursday.
Police were called to the Delta ticket counter this past Thursday because of a woman making a drunken scene, according to Minneapolis-St. Paul Metropolitan Airports Commission spokesman Patrick Hogan.
Hogan said Patricia Krentcil was not arrested, but was taken to a detox facility to sober up. He did not know if or when she had been released.
Hogan said intoxicated travelers go to detox if they can't care for themselves or be released into another's custody.
Krentcil, of Nutley, N.J., made headlines when she was accused of child endangerment in April 2012 for allegedly taking her then 5-year-old daughter into a tanning booth.
Krentcil was arrested after a school nurse told police that her daughter said she went "tanning with Mommy." Throughout the ordeal, the mother adamantly maintained that she would never take her daughter into a tanning booth. Ultimately, a grand jury failed to indict her.
In year afterward, Krentcil appeared in In Touch Weekly, posed for scandalous photos and helped to launch a skin care awareness campaign -- leading some to gather that she used the ordeal simply to become famous. She also released a musical single, called "Tan Mom."
And the Minnesota incident was not the first time Krentcil appeared drunk in public. Back in August, she fell on the red carpet while making an appearance at the XL Club in Hell's Kitchen.
Inside, her speech was slurred.
Krentcil also has a Twitter account, but has not tweeted at all about the incident in Minnesota. It was unclear Saturday night whether she was back in New Jersey.
