Talbot To Start Second Consecutive Game For Rangers, Lundqvist Sits
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Rangers head coach Alain Vigneault announced after Monday's practice that Cam Talbot will start in goal against the Winnipeg Jets on Monday night.
Talbot has enjoyed a hot start to his NHL career. He is coming off a 5-2 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday. The 26-year-old is 6-1-0 in eight appearances for the Rangers in 2013-14. He's posted an outstanding 1.49 goals against average and has recorded a .944 save percentage.
Henrik Lundqvist is not used to sitting out consecutive games when healthy. The 31-year-old Swedish netminder has the full backing of Vigneault.
"Cam is playing extremely well," Vigneault said. "Henrik is definitely the number one goaltender on this team."
Lundqvist is 8-11-0 through 20 games played in 2013-14. His goals against average stands at 2.51. Lundqvist's save percentage this year is .917.
The duo aren't letting the competition get in the way of their camaraderie.
"We have a great relationship," Lundqvist said. "I support Cam, he supports me. It's about the team. Tonight this is best for the team."
The Rangers host the Winnipeg Jets at 7 p.m. on Monday. They will next travel to Buffalo to face the Sabres on Thursday night.
