The Marie Colvin Convoy for Freedom of Syria arrived at the East Norwich home on Long Island Friday morning. Some came all the way from California.
"I think she was the first American journalist to actually lose her life trying to go to Syria and uncover what the Assad was doing. What they're doing is absolutely atrocious," said Racan Alhoch.
They presented Colvin's mother, Rosemarie, with flowers and a condolence card.
The gathering of friends and family then moved to a nearby park for a short ceremony.
"She was a journalist. She stood for what I think all journalists idealy hope for is to bring truth to what is happening in the world," said Rosemarie Colvin. "This kind of thing honors that commitment."
Marie Colvin worked for the Sunday Times of London.
She was killed on Feb. 22 when a Syrian army mortar struck the building that served as a makeshift media center in the village of Homs.
The war correspondent's funeral on Monday was attended by hundreds of mourners, including media mogul Rupert Murdoch.
