Swisher, Teixeira Breaking Out Of Playoff Funk
BALTIMORE (CBSNewYork) - Yankee fans have pointed the finger of blame in the direction of Nick Swisher and Mark Teixeira as both sluggers have struggled in New York's two most recent postseason appearances.
Swisher was the poster boy of the Yankees' playoff failures, but finished the 2012 regular season on a high. He went into Game 1 of the ALDS batting .160 (16-for-100) since joining the Yankees in 2009.
Teixeira is a .216 career playoff batter. He entered this series batting .170 (18-for-106) in three playoffs as a Yankee.
Both under fire stars got their 2012 postseasons off to a strong start on Sunday. Teixeira collected two hits, a walk and an RBI while Swisher reached base four times. The Yankees' right fielder recorded two hits, walked twice and drove in an RBI in Game 1.
Yankee fans are hoping the duo can keep it up as they look to take Game 2 of the ALDS on Monday night.
