In this season of honoring and appreciating Mariano Rivera, the presentation in Texas on Thursday included John Wetteland.
Wetteland was the Yankees' closer before Rivera and the MVP of the 1996 World Series when Mo was "only" the setup man.
And the Yankees let him go to Texas via free agency because they felt that Rivera was ready to become the closer.
Wetteland, who retired in 2000 after four seasons with the Rangers, spoke to the media after getting to chat with Rivera on Thursday during an on-field ceremony.
He offered his unique perspective on Rivera's career.
