Swarm Of Honeybees Delays Flight From Pittsburgh To New York
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- You've heard of snakes on a plane, but bees?
A Delta commuter flight on its way to New York from Pittsburgh Wednesday was delayed by a swarm of bees.
"They were getting ready to fuel and they came around the corner of the plane and right there on the wing is a cluster of honeybees," Master beekeeper Stephen Repasky of Meadow Sweet Apiaries told KDKA in a report on CBSPittsburgh.com. "It was a shocker to a lot of people.
The honeybees are a protected species, which means that they can't be killed and must be moved to another location. Repasky scooped them into a box for later release. They are now in his backyard.
Swarms of bees are not new at the Pittsburgh International Airport. Last May, 25,000 to 30,000 landed on the Taxiway-C light, according to the report.
"At the airport, this would be the fourth swarm that we've caught this year out there," he said.
