SUV Slams Into Building In Bedford-Stuyvesant
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- An SUV crashed into a Brooklyn building Friday, forcing an evacuation.
The incident happened shortly after 3 p.m. at the corner of Marion Street and Howard Avenue in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of the borough, police said.
The SUV tore through a white wrought iron fence and punched a small hole in the corner of the building.
Calvin Robinson told 1010 WINS' Sonia Rincon that he was inside when the accident happened.
"I heard a 'bam' and I came downstairs and the car was inside the building," he said.
Witnesses said the accident happened when the driver of the SUV took off after striking a Cadillac.
"I spoke to the guy. He told me that the situation wasn't that bad," Ryan Mohammed said. "It escalated when he tried to escape."
Mohammed told Rincon that he observed the driver of the SUV on the ground, getting slapped by the driver of the Cadillac.
The driver was treated for minor injuries. He was charged with driving with a suspended license and leaving the scene of an accident.

One person suffered minor injuries, EMS said.
Approximately 16 people were evacuated from the building, the FDNY said.
The Department of Buildings was assessing the situation.
