Suspects In Fatal Shooting Of Basketball Star Tayshana Murphy Back In NYC
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Two suspects who were arrested in South Carolina for the shooting death of a high school basketball star in Harlem have been returned to New York City.
Police say 21-year-old Robert Cartagena and 21-year-old Tyshawn Brockington arrived in New York City Wednesday to face murder charges.
The two waived extradition back in September after they were arrested in South Carolina by U.S. Marshals.
Officials say they shot and killed 18-year-old Tayshana Murphy last month.
The senior at Murry Bergtraum was shot in the head in the Grant Houses in Morningside Heights.
Murphy was known as "chicken" at home and on the court. She was considered one of the top girls basketball players in the city and was ranked as the 16th best point guard in the nation for her class by ESPN.
Investigators have also arrested a third man in connection with the shooting, 24-year-old Terique Collins, for criminal possession of a weapon.
