NYPD: BB Gun Brandishing Suspect Shot By Cops In Queens After Attempted Carjacking
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Officers shot a 46-year-old man armed with a BB gun after he tried to carjack an elderly man in Queens, police said.
Around 1 p.m. Thursday, the suspect allegedly walked up to the 89-year-old man who was sitting in his 1992 Oldsmobile on Christie Avenue and told him he was going to take the car.
Police said the suspect struck the victim on the arm with the BB gun, which was painted black.
The suspect fled on foot after two witnesses came to help the victim but officers were able to catch up with him.
Police said after officers shot the suspect once in the torso after he refused to drop the weapon.
The victim of the attempted carjacking was taken to Booth Memorial Hospital for lacerations on his arm.
The suspect was taken to Elmhurst Hospital in stable condition.
The investigation is ongoing.
