Police Release New Video Of Suspect In Attempted Rape Of Prospect Park Jogger

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police have released new video of a suspect who they said tried to rape a woman at knifepoint as she was jogging in Brooklyn last month.

In the new surveillance video, the suspect is seen looking over his shoulder while walking outside Prospect Park West, CBS2's Magdalena Doris reported. That's where investigators said he targeted a 23-year-old jogger at 5:15 a.m. back on April 20.

Police said he attacked her from behind, throwing her to the ground. That's when police said he pulled out a knife and told the woman he was going to rape her.

The woman tried to fight him off, struggling with her attacker until he eventually gave up and ran away, police said.

Prospect Park regulars say the incident has brought changes to the park and to their mindset while running.

"There's actually a lot of people, women in particular, who run all the time and maybe we took it a little for granted before and now have to think about it a little," one park goer said.

The NYPD has stationed security lights near the entrance closest to where the incident took place. Park security is also making their presence known and wanted posters are plastered throughout the neighborhood.

"I'll keep my eye out for this scum," said Park Slope resident Daria Sanford.

Police had previously released a sketch of the suspect.

He is described as a black man between 5'10" and 6' tall, 180 to 190 pounds with short hair and a goatee. He was last seen wearing a black t-shirt and black pants with white lettering.
