Suspect Charged With Murder After Police Find Roommate Dead In UES Apartment
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Police say they are charging a man with murder after finding his roommate dead in their Upper East Side apartment Thursday morning.
Police say 46-year-old Shaun Dyer has been charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
Neighbors told CBS 2 that city marshals were at the apartment on 62nd Street near First Avenue Thursday to serve an eviction notice when they discovered the body.
According to the Daily News, the victim has been identified as 47-year-old David Shahda.
David Stollerman, who lives in the same apartment building, told 1010 WINS learning of Dyer's arrest wasn't exactly shocking.
"I always knew he had problems," he said. "Something like this, I always knew this day was coming sadly. I always thought that there would be this kind of thing. I thought it would be this or that he would burn down the building."
A pit bull was also found inside the apartment.
No word yet on a cause of death. Police haven't released a possible motive.
