Suspect Charged In Stabbing In JFK Airport Parking Garage
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A man has been arrested and charged in the stabbing of another man during a fight in a parking garage at John F. Kennedy International Airport.
Port Authority of New York and New Jersey police Detectives arrested Guang Zheng, 50, at 9:50 p.m. Friday near his home in Flushing, Queens, department spokesman Joe Pentangelo said.
Zheng was charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon.
About five hours earlier, fire officials said emergency workers responded to the parking area in Terminal 8, where Zheng and another man had been scuffling.
"There was a verbal discussion at some point which was escalated between two individuals. There was a third person who tried to intervene and break it up if you will, and allegedly, the victim was slashed with a knife by the perpetrator," Port Authority police Chief Louie Koumoutsos told WCBS 880.
Pentangelo said Zheng hopped into a bronze Acura and drove off, while the other man was transported to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center in serious condition.
Pentangelo said his injuries are not life-threatening. He suffered a laceration to his left eye, officials said.
Koumoutsos said Zheng has been arrested at airports before.
"The last arrest that we have documented was October of 2013," he said. "He was arrested for trespassing at one of the airports and illegal hustler activity."
Witnesses told 1010 WINS that the fight in the latest incident may have been over a fare.
