Suspect Charged In Shooting That Killed Man On Lower East Side
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A Brooklyn man has been charged with murder in the deadly shooting of another man earlier this month on the Lower East Side.
Joshua Nunez, 21, of the 0-99 block of Wilson Avenue in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn, was charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon in the Oct. 6 shooting that killed Charles Fernandez, 29, of the 200 block of Mott Street in NoLiTa.
Around 11:30 p.m. on Oct. 6, police responded to a 911 call that a man had been shot in front of the building at 110 Forsyth St. The man had been taken to the hospital by private means, and police later learned that he had been pronounced dead on arrival at Bellevue Hospital after being shot in the torso.
Nunez and Fernandez had gotten into a heated argument inside a barbershop at the Forsyth Street address, and the fight spilled onto the street and culminated in the shooting, DNAInfo reported Monday.
Fernandez's brother told the publication that the victim had been engaged a bitter feud with some men in the area, which started after the brothers' teenage cousin was attacked and robbed in January.
The identity of the victim was withheld pending proper family notification.
