Case Adjourned In Fatal Staten Island Hit-And-Run
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The case against a Staten Island man accused in a fatal hit-and-run that killed a grandmother has been adjourned.
Brian McGurk, 40, appeared in court Wednesday. He's charged in the hit-and-run death of Clara Almazo
The 57-year-old was hit while she was walking home from Mount Carmel Church with her 8-year-old grandson. Almazo pushed her grandson out of the way just before being hit. The boy suffered a broken leg.
Police said McGurk initially took off, but later turned himself in.
Almazo is survived by 10 children, 10 grandchildren and her husband, who was in Mexico visiting his sick parents when she was killed.
McGurk has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident. He's due back in court on June 14.
