Suspect Caught After Officers Allegedly See Him Firing Gun In Jamaica, Queens
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police this weekend apprehended a man whom officers allegedly caught firing a gun at a group of people in Jamaica, Queens.
Plainclothes officers from the 113th Precinct were on patrol at Merrick Boulevard and 119th Avenue around 11:18 p.m. Saturday, when they saw a group quarreling, police said.
As officers drove by, they saw a man take a gun out of his waistband and fire two rounds at the group, police said.
As the sergeant and three police officers got out of their unmarked squad car, the suspect ran off and threw the gun on the ground near Merrick Boulevard and Victoria Road, police said.
Officers caught the suspect at Merrick and Baisley boulevards without incident, police said.
The suspect – Michael Jones, 19, of Queens – was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, and obstructing governmental administration, police said.
A loaded .25-caliber Raven Arms gun was recovered, police said.
