Suspect Captured, Salem Hostage Standoff Ended
SALEM, N.J. (AP) -- A hostage situation in southern New Jersey is over, and all four hostages have been freed unharmed.
Just before 4 a.m. Thursday, State Police stormed a home in Salem and arrested 24-year-old Lavar Rodgers. Authorities say he traded shots with police officers who were called to the home Wednesday afternoon on a domestic violence complaint.
One police officer received a grazing gunshot wound and was treated at the scene. A police dog was shot in the abdomen and was in stable condition Thursday morning.
Before police stormed the house, the suspect had released all the hostages, who were unharmed.
Rodgers is charged with attempted murder, kidnapping and other offenses.
