Suspect Arrested, Another Still Sought In Theft Of Blind Woman's Wallet
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police arrested a woman who they said stole the wallet of a 68-year-old blind woman inside a Queens subway station last month.
Latisha Richardson, 39, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property, jostling and criminal possession of a controlled substance.
Both suspects are accused of using the victim's credit cards at stores in the area.
Meanwhile, the victim spoke with 1010 WINS on Wednesday, talking about what a "terrible experience" the entire situation was.
"It makes you feel really violated. It's also a pain in the neck because if I had cards that I had to cancel and then replace -- it was a real headache," said the woman who wanted to remain nameless.
The woman said she was in the subway station at the corner of Queens Boulevard and 75th Avenue around 6 p.m. on April 16 when she felt a "little tap."
"It wasn't that I was distracted, somebody didn't come to distract me -- nothing," she said.
She said that she hopes that punishment will be especially hard for the perpetrators, given that they allegedly took advantage of her situation.
"I really hope that they throw the book at these people because to do that to anybody is really awful, but to do that to a person who is blind or handicapped in any way -- it's just rotten," she said.
A second suspect, described as a 5-foot-6 black male in his 40's who weighs around 150 pounds is still being sought. He was seen wearing a black t-shirt, white jacket, black baseball cap and see carrying a black backpack, authorities said.
