Survivor Of NY Plane Crash: I'll Skydive Again
BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) -- One of the five skydivers who survived when their airplane crashed in western New York said he plans to resume skydiving as soon as he's able.
Former Army nurse Mike Maly Jr. suffered cuts to his head that required 100 stitches to close after the six-seat skydiving plane crashed into trees seconds after taking off from a Niagara County airfield on Sunday.
The 35-year-old Buffalo firefighter from Cheektowaga said he first helped fellow skydiver Tonya Tiede of Batavia get out of the wreckage. Two men cutting hay nearby aided the most seriously injured skydiver, 53-year-old Thomas "Toma" Medbury of Akron, who remains in critical condition.
Maly, Tiede, the pilot and two other skydivers have been released from the hospital.
The cause of the crash was under investigation.
