Survey Ranks Hunterdon County Best In New Jersey For Raising Kids

Life there is laid back and County Freeholder Rob Walton believes it is the perfect place to raise children.
"These small boroughs are right out of Mayberry and the larger townships that are also very old-fashioned. You got a lot of American flags, a lot of kids. It's just a wonderful place to live," he told WCBS 880 reporter Sean Adams.
The New Jersey Kids Count survey looked at poverty, health, safety, and education and ranked Hunterdon County the best place in New Jersey to raise kids.
Lifelong resident Sam Beavers believes old-time values are an important factor. He trusts people enough to leave the keys in his car ignition and his front door unlocked.
Walton agrees with the survey, saying, "It's a wonderful environment, relatively crime-free, beautiful parks, beautiful places for kids to play. The schools are top-notch across the board. Even the worst schools are better, far better, than the schools in other parts of the state, and the folks here are generally fairly well off."
Not surprisingly, median household income plays a significant role in a child's welfare.
Morris County came in second, Bergen County third, and Cumberland County was last out of the state's 21 counties.
