Super Bowl Expo Held For Local Businesses Banking On The Big Game
SECAUCUS, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- The Super Bowl is still many months away, but local business are looking to cash in on the expected economic boost coming to the Tri-State Area next winter.
The Meadowlands Regional Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday held a trade show dubbed "The Big Game Experience" for local businesses hoping to profit from the big game when it comes to the Meadowlands in February.
Harlan Silverstein of the Rahway-based props company The Spoon Group was one of hundreds of vendors at the Meadowland Exhibition Center in Secaucus for the expo. He said certain items are a must for a home Super Bowl party.

"You have to have a goal post, you have to!" he told WCBS 880's Marla Diamond. "When the Super Bowl comes around, that's when people want to get extravagant and over the top."
Caterers, bands, limo companies, ice carvers and other local businesses filled the expo to connect with the event and corporate party planners charged with planning the pre-Super Bowl parties.
"We're very confident that there probably will not be a hotel room available in all North Jersey. The issue is what will those folks do with their discretionary dollars," Meadowlands Chamber of Commerce CEO Jim Kirkos told Diamond. "The NFL talks about a significant number on an economic impact of this event, maybe perhaps north of $500 million," Kirkos told Diamond.
Super Bowl XLVIII will kick off from MetLife Stadium on Feb. 2, 2014.
