Summer Of Violence Continues With Pair Of Shootings In Brooklyn
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - A pair of shootings within a few blocks of each other in Flatlands, Brooklyn struck in the early morning. Police said there were two shootings but three crime scenes in Flatlands.
Police said there was a botched livery cab robbery attempt at around 2:30 a.m. The driver and thief fought for the gun and it went off and hit one of the two passengers in the car, according to police.
That passenger, a 23-year-old man, was shot in the head and is in critical condition at Kings County Hospital. Police said a man has been taken into custody in connection with that shooting.
"It was maybe two or three in the morning and my kids weren't home and I heard a pop-pop-pop but honestly, I thought it was my imagination," one witness told CBS 2's Amy Dardashtian.
Police said the shooter took off on foot and dropped the gun around the corner.

At a party a few blocks away around 1 a.m, shots rang out leaving four people wounded, EMS told 1010 WINS. The victims were all taken to Brookdale Hospital.
Officials said the shooting happened just as the first night of the "Occupy the Corner" anti-violence effort was ending.
A man who lives on Utica Ave. said these shootings are very out of place for his neighborhood.
"It's just very shocking, you know?" the man told 1010 WINS' Glenn Schuck. "It just really shakes you up, it makes you want to move out," he said.
The man said he's nervous now.
"I fear for my family now, it's ridiculous. My wife and my son, I'm afraid to even let them out of the house now. It's so surreal, it's crazy," he told Schuck.
Meantime, National Action Network President Rev. Al Sharpton will participate in one of a series of nighttime "Occupy the Corner'' demonstrations Saturday night.
The demonstrations are scheduled for nine Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island intersections associated with violent crime.
The demonstrations are meant to protest against the violent summer. "Occupy the Corner" events will run through Sept. 9 on weekends.
