Summer After Sandy: Point Pleasant Beach Bounces Back
POINT PLEASANT BEACH, N.J. (CBSNewYork) - At WCBS 880, we've been profiling the recovery from superstorm Sandy along the Jersey Shore, with a new Summer After Sandy report every Friday.
Today, reporter Sean Adams headed to Point Pleasant Beach.
The boardwalk is back - rebuilt and alive. Arcades are humming.
Summer After Sandy: Point Pleasant Beach Bounces Back
"The south beach arcade was a complete loss," Jenkinson's Boardwalk's Toby Wolf told Adams. "The interior, we lost everything in it. We renovated it. We picked out some really great new games, things like that, and then we added an XD motion theater."
The aquarium is open. Rides are also open.
"We didn't lose any rides in the storm and that's because we have a phenomenal maintenance department," she said. "You know, we had already started our winter prep, being that the storm was in late October."
Wolf said they're still rebuilding one of the mini golf courses.
"It really is the golf courses being rebuilt, but other than that, I mean, we're a hundred percent," she told Adams.
On the residential side, Sandy flooded 1,800 homes there and repairs continue. Roughly two dozen families are still displaced.
Otherwise, Mayor Vincent Barrella said, "There is nothing that you did in Point Pleasant Beach last summer that you're not gonna be able to do this summer."
He added that the beaches have been cleaned and sifted.
He said that they'll have more open for the summer season than any other place on the Jersey Shore.
