Suffolk Police Investigating Fatal Head-On Crash
YAPHANK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) - Police say a car veered out of control and hit two oncoming vehicles on a Long Island road, killing a woman and injuring four other people.
Suffolk County police say Christopher Torres, 23, was driving his 2008 Nissan west on Horseblock Road in Yaphank when he lost control of the car around 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
According to police, Torres' car plowed into two cars heading eastbound.
Kaitlyn Dougherty, 22, a passenger in one of the cars, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Torres, of Nesconset, was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.
The drivers of the other vehicles and another passenger were transported by ambulance to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue where they were being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
