Cars Damaged In Suffolk County As Man Drags Fallen Tree Behind Truck
HUNTINGTON STATION, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- On Long Island Monday, storms moved through a Suffolk County town knocking down a giant tree, but most of the damage was caused by something else.
Monday afternoon's storm brought down a massive tree onto Pulaski Road near Huntington Station on Long Island. It's a mess that was made worse by a good Samaritan with a bad idea.
"He just roped up the tree to the back of his truck, started dragging it down Pulaski. Damaged about three or four cars," Brittany Randazzo told CBS2's Tracee Carrasco.
Suffolk County Police said a good Samaritan tried to clear the tree from the road, but in doing so he damaged four parked vehicles. Two of the cars -- belonging to Chris Sandoval -- now have broken windows and mirrors, and scratches and dents.
"He has the consequences. I don't think he really thought them through, but no one is held accountable now," Sandoval said.
Police said once the driver realized what was happening he took off.
"People were telling him 'Stop, stop, stop!' and he just kept going down the street," Randazzo said.
Witnesses said the area was barricaded by police, so it isn't clear who let him down the roadway to clear the tree. Police said they have no idea who the driver is.
