Suffolk County Police Seek Person Who Stole Scooter From Front Lawn Of Disabled Veteran
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - Detectives in Suffolk County are looking for whoever stole a motorized scooter from the front lawn of a disabled Vietnam veteran.

The theft took place at some point Sunday afternoon.
Tom Cammarata, 59, is now stuck in his home. He uses the $1,800 Blue Champion 3 scooter to go shopping, get to the doctor's office, and ride around the neighborhood. He also uses it to get to and from the bus he takes to volunteer at the Northport Veterans Affairs Medical Center, police said.
"I think it's reprehensible that anybody could steal a device that is necessary for mobility for a handicapped person," Cammarata told WCBS 880's Sophia Hall. "They had actually dragged the scooter across the lawn where evidently a vehicle must have been waiting."
Cammarata told hall he doesn't care about anyone getting arrested - he just wants his scooter back.
"In the meantime, I'm totally incapacitated," Cammarata said. "I can't leave, I can't go anywhere."
It could take months before Cammarata is able to get another scooter from the Department of Veteran's Affairs, Hall reported.
Suffolk County Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest. Anyone with any information about the theft is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls are kept confidential.
