NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Police on Long Island have rescued three fishermen after their 12-foot inflatable boat drifted for three hours.

Newsday reports that Suffolk County police rescued the men from the Long Island Sound early Saturday.

Police say the men launched the boat from the Miller Place area Friday night and were fishing for porgies.

The boat had no motor and was stocked with just two oars and one life preserver.

Police say the men couldn't navigate once winds and currents picked up and the boat was adrift for at least three hours.

Suffolk police located the vessel and rescued the men after one of the men called 911 from a cellphone.

The fishermen were not injured. A summons was issued for insufficient life preservers on the boat.
