Suffolk County Police Rescue Man Trapped In Medford Storm Drain
MEDFORD, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Police rescued a man who fell into a storm drain on Long Island on Monday evening.
The 25-year-old man accidentally dropped his cellphone down a storm drain on Route 112 near Granny Road in Medford around 6:40 p.m., Suffolk County police said.
The man tried to retrieve the phone, but slipped and fell into the storm drain and ended up trapped in the holding tank, police said.
But he happened to have another cellphone, and was able to call 911 from inside the tank, police said.
Suffolk County Police Emergency Service Section officers Paul Carpenito and William Judge rushed to the scene, and used a reciprocating saw and a ladder to get the man out of the tank, police said.
The man was pulled safely from the storm drain and was not injured, police said.
