Suffolk County Police Officers Save Man From Heroin Overdose
FORT SALONGA, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Four Suffolk County police officers saved a man who had suffered a heroin overdose in Fort Salonga Saturday morning.
The officers – Joseph Mango, Barbara Hernandez, Shane Wild, and Michael Guido – came to a home on Old Bridge Road just after 6 a.m. to find the man passed out from an overdose in his bedroom.
Officer Mango administered intranasal Narcan, and the man was then taken to Huntington Hospital in Huntington by paramedics. He regained consciousness in the ambulance, police said.
There was no word on whether the man faced any criminal charges in connection with heroin possession or use.
Suffolk County police have joined the New York State Department of Health in a pilot program involving the use of Narcan, a prescription drug used to reverse opiate overdoses.
