Suffolk County Exec Revises Layoff List; As Many As 700 Employees Could Be Let Go
HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - Suffolk County executive Steve Bellone is revising his layoff list, and a good chunk of cops are grabbing early retirement in financially strapped Suffolk County.
As Bellone prepares his first State of the County address, he's warning the legislature against delaying an emergency measure to help the county's projected $530 million budget hole, WCBS 880's Mike Xirinachs reported. Aides for the Suffolk County executive warn that delays would only mean more layoffs.

The county's layoff list is already being revised downward from the 700 layoffs proposed by the previous county executive.
Officials have said that as many as 400 layoffs are likely, but any legislative delays in emergency funding could push that number up to more than 700.
Meanwhile, some 70 Suffolk County police officers have reportedly accepted an early retirement incentive.
