Subway Work Affecting 14 Lines This Weekend

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- You might find relief in a nice, cool air-conditioned subway car Saturday, or you might not – given that construction work is altering service for 14 lines than not this weekend.

The work affects the No. 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7 lines, as well as the A, C, E, F, G, J, N, Q and R lines. The changes are as follows:

• The No. 2 train is running in stretches local until 5 a.m. Monday. Downtown trains are running local from 96th Street to Chambers Street, while uptown trains are running local from 14th Street to 96th Street. Work is underway on the compressor plant at the 34th Street-Penn Station stop, according to DNAInfo.

• The No. 3 train is not running at all from 11:45 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. through Sunday night into Monday morning. During the day, the No. 3 train runs local on the same stretches as the No. 2 train.

• No. 4 trains headed to Woodlawn will skip the 138th Street-Grand Concourse stop on weekend nights through Sunday night into Monday morning.

• Dyre Avenue-bound No. 5 trains are skipping the 138th Street-Grand Concourse stop between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

• Flushing-bound No. 7 trains are running express from Queensboro Plaza to Mets-Willets Point, skipping all the stops in between.

• The Brooklyn-bound A train is running local from 59th Street-Columbus Circle to West 4th Street, making stops at 50th Street and 23rd Street. South of West 4th Street, the A train will be rerouted along the F line to Jay Street-Metrotech through the weekend. The reason is an asbestos abatement project south of Chambers Street, DNAInfo reported.

• The Brooklyn-bound C train is also being rerouted along the F line through the weekend between West 4th Street and Jay Street-Metrotech.

• Commuters at several stops may be confused through the weekend, as the A and E trains have switched sides. Downtown E trains are running express between 34th Street-Penn Station and Canal Street through the weekend.

• F trains headed to Brooklyn will be rerouted to the M line between 36th Street in Queens and the 47th-50th streets stop in Manhattan through the weekend, while Queens-bound trains will run express from West 4th Street to 34th Street-Herald Square.

This is the first of 12 non-consecutive weekends that G train service will be shut down altogether north of Nassau Avenue. The Greenpoint Tunnel under the Newtown Creek was severely damaged by Superstorm Sandy and is in need of permanent repairs.

• Queens-bound J trains are running express between Myrtle Avenue and Broadway Junction. The reason is a track panel installation at Kosciusko Street, DNAInfo reported.

• The N train is being rerouted along the Q line between Canal Street and DeKalb Avenue during the overnight hours through Sunday night into Monday morning. N trains are not stopping at Jay Street-MetroTech, Court Street, Whitehall Street, Rector Street, Cortlandt Street, or City Hall.

• Manhattan-bound Q trains are running express from Kings Highway to Prospect Park in Brooklyn, stopping at Newkirk Plaza and Church Avenue. Also, beginning at 5 a.m. Monday, Manhattan-bound Q trains will skip Cortelyou Road, Beverly Road and Parkside Avenue through the fall.

• From 6:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, the R train will be rerouted along the Q line between Canal Street and DeKalb Avenue. The R train will not stop at City Hall, Cortlandt Street, Rector Street, Whitehall Street, Court Street or Jay Street-MetroTech.
