Teens Charged In 6 Train Subway Stabbing; Victim Wants Alleged Female Attackers Held 'Accountable'
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Five teens accused in an incident that ended with a Vietnam veteran being stabbed on a subway train have been charged in the attack.
The stabbing occurred after the girls took exception to Ralph Carnegary's comments about their rowdiness, police said.
Starmeik Driggins, 19, is accused of slashing Carnegary in the shoulder as the four others allegedly cursed at him on the Downtown-bound 6 Train.
Driggins was charged with assault, among other counts. The four other teens were charged with attempted assault.
Carnegary, 63, told 1010 WINS' Carol D'Auria said it all started around 6 a.m. Sunday when he was headed to Wall Street, where he works as a souvenir vendor.

"They were yelling, screaming at each other...I was with my friend and I just looked and I said 'These girls must be retarded, they can't hear themselves.'" Carnegary said. "They heard that and used that as an excuse to start the confrontation."
However, Driggins' lawyer said Carnegary kicked his client's girlfriend in the stomach and that Driggins intervened to help her.
There were witnesses to the incident and by the time he reported it to a conductor at 14th Street, the group of women were in police custody.
"I'm just grateful that I'm here today -- thank the Lord," Carnegary said.
Carnegary told D'Auria that he wants justice to be served.
"They need to be held accountable in some sort of way because the next victim might not be so lucky," he said.
Carnegary said that despite the fact that he was left bleeding profusely, he is grateful for the help he received from authorities.
"The NYPD responded within like a minute. I mean, they were right there. EMS responded really fast," he said.
Bail for Driggins was set at $15,000.
