Subway Train Stalls On Williamsburg Bridge; Multiple Lines Snagged
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A disabled train on the Williamsburg Bridge and other problems led to delays and reroutes on multiple subway lines late Thursday afternoon, as New Yorkers prepared for New Year's Eve celebrations.
Mechanical problems with a train on the Williamsburg Bridge forced the suspension of J Train service between Manhattan and Brooklyn, as well as all M Train service west of Marcy Avenue in Brooklyn.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority sent a rescue train to evacuate passengers from the disabled M Train. The passengers were to go from one train to the other.
Service on the lines had returned to normal by just before 6 p.m.

Meanwhile, signal problems at Queens Plaza resulted in delays on the E, F, M and R trains in both directions in the late afternoon. By just before 6 p.m., service had returned to normal on the lines -- but with residual delays.
And a switch problem at the Franklin Avenue-Botanic Garden station in Brooklyn resulted in delays on the No. 2, 3, 4 and 5 trains. Some No. 2 trains were not making it south of Times Square-42nd Street, and some No. 3 trains were running express from Crown Heights-Utica Avenue to Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center.
Northbound No. 5 trains were running local from Franklin Avenue to Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center, and some southbound No. 5 trains were terminating at Bowling Green.
No. 1 trains were also skipping the 50th Street stop due to the New Year's Eve events in Times Square.
The MTA advised allowing additional travel time.
