Suburban 'Police Impersonator Rabbi' Charged In 4th Alleged Road Rage Incident
HAWTHORNE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) - The suburban rabbi accused of impersonating a police officer and pulling over unsuspecting drivers has struck again, New York State Police announced Wednesday.
Rabbi Alfredo Borodowski, 49, of White Plains has been charged with criminal impersonation for an incident from May on the Sprain Brook Parkway.
Borodowski has now been accused in four such incidents in Westchester County.
According to police, the rabbi allegedly pulled up behind a woman's car on an exit ramp in Greenburgh in May. Police say he got out of his car, waved a badge, banged on her window and threatened to arrest her for driving too slowly and recklessly. He then drove off.
The rabbi faces similar charges in Mamaroneck, White Plains and Yonkers. He has pleaded not guilty.
His lawyer says the incidents are the result of bipolar disorder.
Borodowski was terminated from his position as executive director of the Skirball Center for Jewish Learning at Temple Emanu-El on East 65th Street earlier this month, but he is still listed as the rabbi at Sulam Yaakov in Larchmont.
Borodowski is due back in court on this most recent charge on Aug. 2.
