Study: Pregnancy Risks Increase At Age 30
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A new study suggests women over 30 and pregnant are at a higher risk than previously thought.
As CBS 2's Dr. Max Gomez reported Wednesday, the average age of first time motherhood has been steadily increasing in the U.S. over the past 40 years.
With more women in the workforce and pursuing demanding careers, childbearing is now often occurring well into a woman's thirties and studies have shown that the risk for adverse outcomes in pregnancy go up with age.
Many women believe that those risks increase after age 35. However, a new study out of Sweden and Norway suggests that those risks actually begin to increase after age 30.
The study found that the risk of adverse outcomes may increase by as much as 20 percent in the 30 to 34 age group.
