Study: Lower Manhattan Residents Still Suffering From 9/11
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - It's not just workers who were at the World Trade Center site after the 9/11 attacks who have suffered lingering health problems. It's also people who have lived in the area, WCBS 880's Peter Haskell reported.

According to a new study to be published in the American Journal of Public Health, people who had World Trade Center dust in their homes were 50 percent more likely to have breathing problems, even five to six years after 9/11.

"These respiratory diseases are not one-time occurrences, but some of them are actually chronic and ongoing," Catherine Mcvay Hughes, Vice Chairperson of Community Board No. 1 and an advocate for downtown residents, told Haskell.
She lives a block from the site and said everything in her home was covered.
"It was a dusting on any horizontal surface," she said, noting that this study shows the importance of this Zadroga health law, which was passed to help cover the ongoing health costs of those sickened by the 9/11 attacks.
