Students Sickened After Pepper Spray Is Released In Queens School
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) One student was hospitalized, and 10 more had to be sent home, after pepper spray was discharged in a school lunchroom in South Ozone Park, Queens.
The pepper spray was released around 11:15 a.m. Tuesday at J.H.S. 26, at 121-10 Rockaway Blvd., 1010 WINS reported.
A female student had pepper spray in her bag, which had been given to her by her mother for protection because she walks home from school. The student was 11 years old, DNAInfo reported.
Another student told the publication that after the girl sprayed the disabling chemical, his chest became tight because of his asthma. The spray also got into some students' food, DNAInfo reported.
First responders examined 33 students, and 10 had to go home with their parents, 1010 WINS reported. One was taken to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center as a precaution, and the rest returned to class.
