Stretch Of Eastbound I-84 To Be Closed For Accelerated Bridge Deck Replacement Project
BREWSTER, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - A final phase of a fast-tracked bridge deck replacement project is scheduled for this weekend.
As WCBS 880's Paul Murnane reported, the prefabricated bridge deck is expected to slide into place on the eastbound lanes just east of the Interstate 84/684 interchange.
Starting at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Connecticut-bound traffic from the two highways will detour onto Route 6 in Brewster for about 18 hours.

Officials said the expedited work is expected to bring significant savings.
"We would have most likely built a temporary bridge right alongside, which would have cost money and cost time. We believe we saved about $2 million on this," New York State Department of Transportation Commissioner Joan McDonald told Murnane. "This will be a great example that we will put into our best practices folder where we get much-needed infrastructure repairs done quickly and minimize the impact to the traveling public."
If everything goes as planned, the entire $10 million project will be nearly complete with a less than 48-hour disruption to traffic.
I-84 East is scheduled to reopen by Sunday afternoon.
A similar 18-hour bridge deck replacement project was done on the westbound lanes last month.
"We learned a lot from our last experience," McDonald said. "We think that it will go quite smoothly."
