Stray Pit Bulls Terrorizing Residents In Midwood And Borough Park Captured
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Two stray pit bulls that have been terrorizing a Brooklyn neighborhood for the past few months have been captured.
Assemblyman Dov Hikind said he had contacted the NYPD and Animal Care and Control after the two dogs had been spotted together near Foster Avenue and Avenue I.
"People were afraid to get out of cars, people were afraid to walk the street," Hikind told 1010 WINS.
He said the dogs have attacked Brooklyn residents and dogs.
Last month, Natalie Refie told CBS 2 her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named "Rosie" was attacked by a pit bull in November. With a swollen brain, the 3 1/2-year-old dog died of the injuries.
A child and 70-year-old woman were also attacked.
On Wednesday night, one of the dogs snarled and barked at a group of people who barricaded themselves inside Friends Field Park in Midwood.
Hikind said the residents called 911 and the pit bull was tranquilized and taken to the ASPCA.
"I am so thankful that last night's incident at Friends Field did not result in a tragedy," said Hikind. "People have every right and expectation to feel safe in their neighborhoods, whether it's on the street or in a public park."
The other dog has also been collared and is being cared for at an animal shelter. Hikind said the animal will be transferred to a pit bull sanctuary.
A third dog is still on the loose.
