Strange Series Of Events Has Upscale Westchester County Town On Edge
BEDFORD HILLS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A burned out barn near a big home marks the scene of a two-part misfortune that has left an upscale town spooked.
It began with a home invasion on Saturday. A husband, wife, housekeeper and three children were all home when an intruder entered.
Police told CBS 2's Lou Young that a masked gunman, dressed in all black, robbed the owner of the home while he was outside smoking a cigarette.
He tied the man up in the garage before entering the home and shot the woman of the house with a BB-gun. The woman triggered an alarm and hid, while the intruder made a hasty escape, police said.
"The home is not visible from the road. It is set quite a distance back from the main road. One would have to have some knowledge of the geography in order to be able to target this specific house," Police Chief William Hayes said.
The family was back in their house on Monday morning when the pre-dawn air was filled with smoke after a fire broke out in a barn and killed several chickens.
An investigation is underway to determine the case of the fire and police are not ruling out arson. No serious injuries were reported in the invasion or the fire.
