Strahan To Sapp: 'You Don't Need To Take A Shot At Me To Justify Yourself'
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- So Warren Sapp was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame on February 2 and Michael Strahan wasn't.
We know this.
But many are still struggling with how to justify Sapp's election and Strahan's snub.
Sapp, who played defensive tackle in the NFL from 1995 to 2007, said earlier this week that he wasn't sure if he'd be voted in because he felt he was competing for a spot with the former Giant.
"Say if I rewind this to Saturday at 12 o'clock -- me and you are sitting and I say, 'It breaks down whatever and whatever and then you have Michael Strahan and me,'" Sapp told WDAE in Tampa. "Come on, the menace and the media darling. Come on. Madness or "Good Morning America"? I mean, come on."
Strahan, a seven-time Pro Bowler who played with the G-Men from 1993-2007, is currently the co-host of "Live! with Kelly and Michael," which Sapp was referring to. He's also an analyst on Fox NFL Sunday.
Strahan didn't take kindly to Sapp's remark, tweeting, "You never cease to amaze me! Enjoy your moment. You don't need to take a shot at me to justify yourself to other people."
The holder of the NFL season sacks record has since deleted the tweet.
Both players were appearing on the ballot for the first time. Sapp, also a seven-time Pro Bowler, was a four-time First-Team All-Pro and the NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 1999. He is a member of the NFL 1990s All-Decade Team and NFL 2000s All-Decade Team. In 198 games he amassed 569 tackles, 96.5 sacks, eight forced fumbles and four interceptions. He won a Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2003.
Strahan, a defensive end, was a four-time First-Team All-Pro and the NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2001. He was also a two-time NFC Defensive Player of the Year and a member of the NFL 2000s All-Decade Team. In 216 games he recorded 854 tackles, 141.5 sacks, four interceptions and two touchdowns. He won Super Bowl XLII with Big Blue.
Strahan still has some fight left in him! Sound off with your thoughts and comments below...
