Stoudemire Out With Sprained Right Toe
NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — All-Star forward Amare Stoudemire missed the New York Knicks' 105-95 victory at New Jersey on Saturday night with a sprained right big toe.
A Knicks official said Stoudemire wasn't sure when or how he was hurt. The team's leading scorer said after the game he thought it may have come in a collision with Ron Artest during the Knicks' 113-96 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday night.
Stoudemire played 32 minutes in that game, finishing with 24 points and 10 rebounds. But he felt sore Saturday and the Knicks announced about 45 minutes before tip-off that he wouldn't go.
Stoudemire hopes to return Wednesday when the Knicks host the Atlanta Hawks in their final game before the All-Star break.
"The trainers took me through a few tests earlier and I wasn't able to go tonight," Stoudemire said. "So treatment tomorrow, two days after that, so I should be able to go by Wednesday."
Wilson Chandler scored 21 points in place of Stoudemire, who leads the Knicks with 26.2 points and 8.6 rebounds per game. It was the first game this season Stoudemire has missed.
