Nor'easter Brings Pounding Rain, Cuts Power To 13,000 Customers On Long Island
HICKSVILLE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Rain pounded the Tri-State Area Wednesday night, and several areas of Long Island were left in the dark, as a nor'easter swept through.
CBS 2's Lonnie Quinn reported that a storm system was flowing from east to west and was pounding Queens and parts of the Bronx and Manhattan late Wednesday night. Another round of storms was also hitting shore around Montauk at the same time.
The storms were expected to bring a total of about 0.5 inches to 1 inch of rain, and wind gusts of 45 mph or stronger.
The storm left some 13,000 power customers in the dark on Long Island. PSEG Long Island reported that 9,000 customers in Nassau County, and another 4,000 in Suffolk County, were without power on Wednesday night following the stormy weather.
Most of the outages were reported in the Hicksville and Levittown areas.
By 10 p.m., the total number of outages had dropped to 8,700, PSEG Long Island said.
The storm system was expected to dissipate by the morning commute, with lighter rain at 7 p.m., and on-again, off-again rain throughout the day before the storm system flies out into the ocean by the evening.
