Storm water discharge increased bacteria levels at 60 Suffolk County beaches, forcing a health advisory to swimmers to stay out of the water.
That will remain in effect until the bacteria count goes down, which could be as soon as this afternoon.
In the meantime, those at Huntington Harbor Tuesday morning told Xirinachs that the would comply and stay out of the water.
The affected beaches are along Long Island Sound and the northern shore of the Great South Bay.
Officials will test the waters today and could re-open the beaches as early as 2:00 p.m.
